Sure the iPhone received lots of attention. Consumers lined up to buy it. It could do amazing tricks. But did we all miss the real story about the iPhone? The iPhone is a great business tool.

Bloggers and the media have recently taken notice that Avaya has added PBX capabilities to 2007’s most coveted mobile phone. While it does have some gotchas that will eventually be worked out, think of the iPhone as a business-class device in consumer electronics clothing. The iPhone becomes your mobile office extension and your favorite gadget for viewing streaming videos. These two functions are not mutually exclusive. In the world of Enterprise 2.0 and Contact Center 2.0, the iPhone has the multi-media chops for both supporting tighter collaboration between knowledge workers and giving consumers new ways to interact with businesses. Hey, that’s a pretty good thought on which to end 2007!

Blackberry has a loyal following among corporate users and that's a big hurdle for iPhone to leap despite it's versatility. Meanwhile, I am really hoping Jobs will announce a GPS and 3G capable iPhone at MacWorld.
